Family,
Last night we went to the Texas State Fair. It’s the largest fair in the country: 500 acres, 3 million people go every year. It is famous for fried food- it’s where they invented the corn dog. They have a big fried food contest every year. This years winner was deep fat fried cookie dough. We tried some (for $6), it was excellent. They also fry twinkies, snickers, cheesecake, coca-cola, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Needless to say we were pretty sick by the time we left.
We went with Dallan and Bethany. They told us they’re having a new baby- very exciting. We went to the petting zoo, saw a pig race, watched the parade, and rode some rides. Eden ate a thing of cotton candy as big as her, and was so wired that she didn’t go to bed until 10:30. The weather was a perfect 75 degrees.
Kelsey and I also went to see one of our favorite bands, Rilo Kiley, at the Palladium ballroom. It was a big night for us, since it is the first time we have ever paid for baby sitting, we always just swapped with people before. I guess we’re moving up in the world. It was a good show, and a nice chance for Kelsey and me to do something with just the two of us that we really like to do.
The other day I was at work when one of the partners called me up from a trial in Fort Worth. He said he needed a BYU lapel pin or tie tack, because one of the jurors is a Mormon and he wanted to make a good impression the next day. It was straight out of that movie “The Devil Wears Prada.” I scrambled that evening, calling, emailing, or trying to find some place that would sell me one. Finally I stopped by the LDS bookstore by the temple to pick up Angel Moroni and Dallas Temple pins. Somehow I felt so dirty.
Otherwise work has been going well. I haven’t had to work too many long hours, although I am there until 10 a couple of nights a week. But if I do that I don’t have to come in on Saturday, so it’s worth it. I still like it pretty well, and could certainly think of worse jobs (I’ve had a few). Eden loves going to preschool, and Kelsey likes the break and likes being able to spend some one-on-one time with Jude. He’s 15 months old, and can clap, wave, clench his fists, and pat while giving hugs. However, he does not say even one word- but we still like him.
We liked conference this weekend, even though we didn’t get it very well over the internet. We actually went to the church on Sunday morning. Elder Eyring and Elder Cook were not who I expected, but they seem to make sense now. Kelsey finished painting the bathroom and the wet bar, so we’re done with home improvements for a while. Kelsey’s grandparents bought tickets to come here for Thanksgiving, and Spencer and Donna are coming, too. We’re excited to see them. We’re still planning on coming to Boise for Christmas, but I looked for tickets today and they are expensive. I don’t know what we’ll do.
